Mangaluru, Jun 19: The newly-elected Karnataka Legislative Assembly speaker U T Khader was accorded a civic honour on Monday, June 19 at Town Hall by the Tulu Parishad Mangaluru.

Addressing the gathering, U T Khader said, “I have resigned from party activities after I was elected as the speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Speaker is a reverential position which should be respected. As a speaker I will be a friend of the opposition party and will take the responsibility of the ruling party. India’s constitution is the best in the country. Along with the rights, we the citizens of India should be responsible to follow our duties. Dr B R Ambedkar has drafted the right to speak, which should be used to uplift our nation. We are in a plan to train new MLAs for  three days which will be easier to work for the development of the state.”

Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister Dr M Veerappa Moily said, “Mangaluru is a land of peace and harmony with 12 different languages. Karnataka Legislative Assembly is having a Speaker of this land and we are sure that U T Khader will be a responsible Speaker. The Speaker should be a person who will have an ability to handle the complete House. He is a mediator of the ruling and the opposition party. Youths should get an  opportunity to share their opinions. If the speaker fails, the judiciary will be failed. Speaker should lay down the rules which should be followed by the members.”

Chairman of Mangaluru University, Dr Jayaraj Amin in his presidential remarks said, “India is a place with several castes, culture and creed which brings people together. The Legislature thinks about each and every individual in the society before implementing certain policies. The Speaker takes the responsibility of the complete House. The Legislature will have different MLAs with a variety of thoughts which will be handled by the Speaker. The Speaker should never be focused on their party. But, they should be the representative of the members of parliament. I would take this opportunity to congratulate U T Khader for becoming the speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly.”

Prior to the felicitation event, speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly U T Khader had an interaction with the students.

Chairman of Tulu Parishad, Dr Prabhakar Neerumarga welcomed the gathering, President of Tulu Parishad Taranath Gatty Kapikad compered the event.
