Mangaluru, Jun 20: Congress leaders staged a protest here at Mini Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday June 20 against the BJP-led central government for ‘denying’ rice for the state's 'Anna Bhagya' scheme which offers 10 kg rice to each member of families living below the poverty line.
Addressing the media, KPCC vice president B Ramanath Rai said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is never working for the welfare of the poor. He is functioning for the wellbeing of businessmen. The BJP government cannot tolerate the developments done by the state government. The Congress government has implemented many schemes for the benefit of the poor, but the BJP government has never fulfilled the promises which they have made to the voters. They should be ashamed. The BJP leaders will be cursed by the poor for denying rice for the state's 'Anna Bhagya' scheme.
Former MLA J R Lobo said, “The Congress government has fulfilled four schemes which were promised during the legislative election, but the 'Anna Bhagya' scheme is kept on hold due to the central government. The BJP government is working in favour of businessmen like Adani and Ambani. They have never completed the works in their term and also fooling the voters through false promises.”
MLC Harish Kumar said, “The central government is trying to hamper the Congress’ welfare schemes by not supplying rice which is also affecting the benefits provided to the poor. The BJP government is against the welfare of the poor.”
Congress leaders Abhayachandra Jain, Inayath Ali, A C Vinayaraj, Naveen D’Souza, Mamatha Gatty, Appi and others were present.
