Cooperate with govt over power tariff hike: M B Patil to industrialists

Bengaluru, Jun 22 (IANS): Minister for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development M.B. Patil on Thursday appealed to the industrialists to cooperate with the government over power tariff hike.

The state industrialists are observing a shutdown over power hike.

Patil told media persons that the hike in power tariff was the decision of Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), which is an independent body, and has nothing to do with the government's decision.

The hike in power tariff was decided during the BJP's tenure well before the Congress government assumed office, he said.

When asked about the concerns raised by industry bodies over the recent hike in power tariff, he said that he would discuss the matter with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Power K.J. George.

He said that he would visit New Delhi in the first week of July to meet the Union ministers to discuss industrial development in the state.

"The road map will be ready by July 27 and after that I will meet the concerned Union ministers to discuss various industrial projects and proposed initiatives," he said.

Patil also criticised the Centre for not agreeing to supply rice to the state through the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

He said that the Centre was playing politics over rice meant for distributing to the poor.

He said that the Karnataka government was not asking for free rice.

Any Govt it may be, before you promise Election free bees, think ten times. Just to win elections you promise so many things. Now free bus travel is costing dearly to us, the tax payers, free electricity is at the cost of increasing tariff for others who are SME or MSME. We are supporting the Govt by providing employment and also guaranteeing jobs, with livelihood to so many people of our area. You politicians sit in a/c cabins, make promises that become difficult to fulfill, so your crucify us, who are soft targets of all your un-planned, un-thought of assurances. Let the Govt stop free water, free electricity, free fuel and all free bees to all the MLAs, MLCs, Ministers and all the Govt babus, who enjoy everything free. When these hikes of basic necessaries happen, let the hike affect all those policy makers as well. Then there would be a consideration while they hike rates of all essentials. Free Rice - of course it is time for Center to play politics to let you Congress govt down, be prepared for similar incidents & you will have to face the music of your people of Karnataka State.

It's high time the INC develops alternative means for power generation, even hydel power. The Sharavathi, Tunga, Sita and other rivers are viable sources, other than the thorium reserves in the state. Irrespective of the government, a long lasting solution is needed. Karnataka pays highest bills in the country, it's not pardonable.

New government - your job is to uplift economically backward families and not to give ladies free tickets, your job is to bring down cost of living and not to increase milk and electricity bills, your job is to create more broader roads and parks. Your job is to cut down medical cost.
