Mangaluru, Jun 23: Huge amounts of tar ball deposits are found at the sea beach at Mukka.
Though it is common to see tar ball deposits during monsoon, this is dangerous to the lives of sea creatures. Huge commercial ships, which travel all through the world, pour their oil mixed effluents into the sea in order to reduce the weight of the vessel. This forms into balls of oil and gets washed onto the shores.
These pollutants stick to the body of fishermen who catch fish on the shore as well as to that of the tourists. There is also the possibility of fishes consuming this pollutant dying.
There are also reports that fishes reared in net fishing have died due to tar ball pollutants.
