Mangaluru , Jun 23: In a press meet on Friday June 23, crying foul on the verdict of sensational rape and murder case of Soujanya, whose killing shrouded in mystery, Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi, president of Prajaprabhutva Vedike said, “The case is closed by destroying all evidence. The investigation officer in this case has not done justice. In the present system, we cannot get justice.” He slammed the police department and CBI for not providing justice to the victim due to the lack of investigation in the case.
Mahesh Shetty Thimarodi highlighted many lapses in the investigation and said, "Why her classmates, with whom Soujanya arrived in the bus after her college and got down at bathing ghat of Netravati river, were not subjected to any inquiry? Why others passengers in the bus in which Soujanya travelled from college were not subjected to any inquiry?
"Soujanya was carrying an umbrella after alighting from the bus. Where is that umbrella? Why did the investigating officers not trace the same? Why was the CCTV footage of Prakriti Chikitsalaya near Netravati bathing ghat not confiscated?
"On the day Soujanya went missing, around 300 people searched the area till midnight but could not find her or any clue. How come her body was found near the main road of Dharmasthala on the early morning the next day? On the next day of the incident, means on October 10, 2012, the innerwear was not found on the body of Soujanya. Why police got a separate inner wear from her house?
Though it was raining whole night on the day Soujanya went missing, why her dress and school books did not get wet? Why they were not confiscated? 8. The footwear which Soujanya was wearing was not found on her body. Why?
"Her watch stopped at 02.15. But it is not clear whether it was night or day. Why her watch was not sent for FSL?
"A chit was found at the place where the body was found. It had two telephone numbers. Why was the chit not confiscated?
"Why were the canine squad and finger print experts not allowed to do any inspection on the spot where the mortal remains were found? 12. Why was the spot not photographed by using professional photographers? 13. Why was the post mortem conducted in dim light? Why the procedure was not videographed?
"Why was the undigested food that was obtained in the stomach of Soujanya during the post mortem, not collected and sent to FSL?
"Why was the statement of Varsha, her classmate, not considered for investigation? According to Varsha’s statement who were the four people who were at the spot from where Soujanya went missing?
"Why were the blood sample, urine sample and semen sample on the private parts of the mortal remains not collected immediately and sent to FSL? Why it was given to FSL after 10 days?
"How the public identified Santhosh Rao as the accused on October 11, 2012? Why was he assaulted? Why was the bag with Santhosh not confiscated when he was handed over to the police?
"Why was the CCTV footage of lower part of Gomateshwara Hills, where Santhosh Rao, who was projected as the accused by the public was apprehended, not confiscated? Why was the investigation of people who assaulted Santhosh Rao and handed him over to the police not done?
"Why was a report from a private hospital obtained to know whether accused Santhosh Rao was fit enough to have sexual intercourse without sending him to judicial custody? Why did the police make report in a hurry that the mark of wounds on the body of the accused Santhosh Rao were created by the nails of deceased Soujanya?
"According to the information given by the police, accused Santhosh Rao was living in a spot within 50 meters of the area where Soujanya’s body was found. However, on the day of Saujanya’s missing, the public searched around one to two km area of the same vicinity but no clues that accused Santhosh Rao was living in that area were found. Why? Why the public were not inquired on this matter?
"Why were the narco analysis records of Mallik Jain, Uday Jain and Dheeraj Kella, suspected accused in the case, not produced in the court?
"Why was the tower location of the nearby areas where the body of Soujanya was found not collected? Why were the call details of the suspected accused not produced to court in detail?
"Soujanya’s aunt informed the police that the suspected accused were found on the spot on the afternoon from where Soujanya went missing. Why was she not subjected to inquiry?" he questioned.
"We are going to construct a statue of Soujanya at her residence," said Mahesh Shetty. In this case, Lord Manjunatha Swamy and Annappa Swamy will give justice, he added.
Soujanya’s mother Kusumavathi Gowda, advocate Ambika, social activist Prasanna Ravi and Uncle Vittal Gowda were present during the press meet.
