Udupi, Jun 23: The flat owners of Voyager Apartments have strongly denied the allegations made by builder Amruth Shenoy against them.
During a press conference held at the Udupi Press Club on Friday, June 23, Girish Aithal, a flat owner, stated, "Amruth Shenoy has given clarifications through the media, claiming that the project was delayed due to demonetization, lack of sand availability, and the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in reality, a new apartment was constructed next to ours within two years without facing any such problems. None of us made cash payments; all transactions were done through banks. Therefore, demonetization should not be an excuse for him. We do not have any personal grudge against him. Our demand is to have the apartments registered in our names and complete the pending works. We have no connection with any land mafia as he has accused us. When approximately 36 apartment owners are accusing him, he alone is defending himself and claiming innocence. He also claims to respect the law, but he has not attended any summons and there are 23 cases registered against him. This shows his lack of respect for the law. We have made these accusations with proof. Who would buy an apartment burdened with liabilities of almost Rs 10 crore from various sources? It has become a habit for him to accuse others. Let him come to his apartment and have a discussion with us. In 2018, the Non-Performing Assets (NPA) was already in place, yet the bank approved a loan for him in 2020."
Ronald Correa, another flat owner, expressed his frustration with the situation, stating, "Amruth Shenoy claims that he acquired this property through hard work and effort, but we booked the flats by investing our hard-earned money. Doesn't our money and effort count? If he has the necessary documents, why hasn't he registered the apartments in our names? Just imagine the amount we would have gained if the money we paid for the flats had been invested elsewhere."
Jacintha Mendonca, another flat owner, added, "He claims that he hasn't cheated anyone, but in reality, he has cheated three members of our family. We have come before the media because he has cheated us, and for no other reason. We gave him Rs 40 lakh in hard-earned money, not pieces of paper. Is this how he respects the law? If he has the courage, let him come and talk to us face-to-face. We have evidence to support our claims."
Flat owners Panduranga Rao, Nazia Banu, and others were also present during the press conference.
