Karkala, Jun 25: A fight over the sale of a TV involving a couple from Yallapur in Uttara Kannada district turned fatal with both drowning to death on Sunday, June 25 morning.
The couple, identified as Emanul Siddhi (40) and Yashodha (32), was employed in the garden of a Mumbai hotel owner in Nallur Hurladi.
Emmanuel Siddhi, belonging to the Siddi race, had been working in the garden of Mumbai hotelier Nallur Hurladi Raghuveer Shetty for the past two years. Despite initially living under favorable circumstances, recent days saw an escalation of quarrels between the couple over trivial matters.
It is known that Emanul Siddhi (40) had a known alcohol addiction. However, the couple's two children, Saluv (11) and Irene (10), were attending a local government school.
According to the statement provided by the deceased children, Emanul Siddhi initiated a conversation with his wife on Sunday morning, suggesting the sale of the TV in their home. When Yashodha objected, a heated argument ensued, leading to Yashodha running away from home and tragically committing suicide by jumping into a nearby lake.
In a desperate attempt to save his wife, Emanul Siddhi also jumped into the same lake, repeatedly diving down two or three times. Tragically, on his fourth attempt, he too drowned in the lake. Despite being a swimmer, he was unable to rescue his wife.
This heartbreaking incident unfolded before the couple's children, leaving them orphaned. The couple, who had embarked on their journey with dreams of a "new life," succumbed to their rash nature.
Rural Sub-Inspector Tejaswi and other police personnel arrived at the scene to gather necessary information.
The bodies have been transported to the taluk government hospital.
A case has been registered at the Karkala rural police station in connection with the incident.
