Udupi: Renowned Yakshagana artiste Tonse Jayanth Kumar passes away

Udupi, Jun 26: Renowned Yakshagana artiste Tonse Jayanth Kumar (77) passed away Monday June 26.

Jayanth Kumar strived to preserve the traditional values of Yakshagana. He was identified as the teacher of Yakshagana.

Jayanth Kumar was the son of national award winner Sanchari Yakshagana Bhandara Tonse Kanthappa master. Right from childhood, Jayanth developed interest in Yakshagana. Even till his last days, he was participating actively in Yakshagana plays.

In addition to his artistic life, he was a good-hearted and patient individual.

Jayanth was conferred with the President’s honour, Academy award, Yakshasuma award, Kalinga Navuda award etc. He was known as the all-rounder in the field of Yakshagana.

His final rites will take place at his Gopalapura Santhekatte residence at 9 am to June 27.
