Mangalore: Palemar Launches KEONICS Cyber Lab in City

Mangalore, Jul 24: Under the IT security promotion campaign, KEONICS Cyber Lab’ was inaugurated by district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar at Rambhavan Complex, Navabharath Circle, Kodialbail here on Saturday July 23.

It is an initiation of state information technology, bio technology, and science & technology departments. Dr V S Acharya, minister for IT & BT, higher education was the chief guest. N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker presided over the formal function organized on the occasion.



M N Vidyashankar, principal secretary, department of IT, BT and S&T, speaking to presspersons said that ‘KEONICS’ will help in standardization of emerging IT professionals by imparting the cyber law and cyber crime knowledge along with their regular academics.

It provides training, investigation support to agencies. Answering a query  about the reason for opening it in Mangalore instead of Bangalore, he said that since there has been complaint that all IT and BT initiatives are Bangalore centric, this would cause knowledge enhancement for the core departments handling cyber crime issues.

The lab in Mangalore will provide training and critical support services to tackle emerging economic and cyber crime problems. It will also conduct regular programmes for government employees, public sector undertakings and even police department personnel on cyber security measures, he added.

Providing details about the physical infrastructure, he said the cyber lab has floor space of 2000 sq. ft, 1 class room with 20 seating capacity, one conference cum class room with 10 seating capacity, 2 cabins, library, server room, UPS room and Pantry among others and total cost amounts to Rs 35 lac.
KEONICS Cyber lab being the major training hub will avail three types of certification courses namely full fledge course (duration 1 week), crash course (3 days), workshop on particular tool or technology (duration 1-2 days), seminars on various topics (duration 1 day). Apart from these the cyber will also conduct awareness campaign.

KEONICS has chosen its MOU partner Mandamus Info Knowledge Consultants (Bangalore) Pvt.Ltd for this initiative. Aravind Jannu, MD, KEONICS, T R Kulkarni, director, Linga Reddy among others were present on the occasion.
