Mangaluru, Jun 28: In a significant development, two individuals involved in the murder case registered under Cr No. 108/2019 at Bajpe Police Station have been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the 6th Additional District Sessions Court in Mangaluru.
The convicted are Ramesh Shettigar, also known as Pongu Ramesh and Nithyananda, also known as Nithya or Dubli.
The court pronounced its verdict on Wednesday, June 28, sentencing Ramesh and Nithyananda to rigorous imprisonment for life. Additionally, a fine of Rs 2,00,000 each has been imposed on them for the offence punishable under Section 302 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). In the event of failure to pay the fine, they will be subjected to an additional two years of rigorous imprisonment.
Furthermore, the duo has also been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of seven years and have been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 1,00,000 each for the offence punishable under Section 201 read with Section 34 of the IPC. In case of non-payment of the fine, they will serve an additional one-year imprisonment.
The verdict was delivered by the 6th Additional District Sessions Court in Mangaluru.
