Kundapur, June 28: The sea at Maravanthe Beach makes ferocious noise. Massive waves beating the sea shore are fearful. But tourists can be seen playing on the seashore with utmost courage here every day.
The sea has become all the more rough due to the cyclone influence. But tourists go ahead to click selfies in front of the waves. Tourists can be seen getting into the water attracted by the beauty of the sea without knowing the risks.
As Maravanthe Beach is too wide, a handful of staff cannot control the tourists. One or two staff members can be seen manning the entire distance of the beach. Tourists get down into the water by the time the staff members reach.
Tourists also stand on slippery rocks to click selfies. They are likely to fall down and drown if they lose their balance. Several people who have ventured into the sea ignoring the unfavourable conditions have lost their lives.
The coast guard should deploy more staff and take stiff measures. Instead of pasting small handbills that warn the tourists, they should put up large boards to create awareness. Tourists arriving from outside the state do not know the risk. The department of tourism needs to give a serious thought to it.
