Kundapur: Elderly man dies after falling into roadside drain

Kundapur, Jun 30: A man fell into a roadside drain that was filled with rain water near Thekkatte government PU college on NH 66 and died on Thursday June 29.

The deceased is identified as Sanjeeva Mogaveera (67), a resident of Barkur.

It is said that Sanjeeva sat on the small culvert above the drain in order to get some relief from tiredness and must have lost his balance and fallen into the drain.

Hyder, who works in nearby Puranik Complex, saw Sanjeeva falling into the drain and immediately alerted locals.

Though former member of zilla panchayat Ganapati T Sriyan, mechanic Lokesh, Santhosh, Chandra Devadiga, Suresh Devadiga rushed to the rescue of Sanjeeva, he had already breathed his last.

    I feel it is a daily scenery in karnataka atleast to have open drainages and in rainy seasons fall buses rickshaws or children and elderly inclusive.Nowhere else one finds open drainages.First it is dangerous to life second to any vehicles which may slip away in rain ,third very easy to spread mosquitoes or diseases.No officials are realising this?Mangalore itself is a best example.Sad this elderly person has to die in canal.Heartyfelt sympathy to his family.

    Very unfortunate incident... At that age vertigo like conditions affect people... Probably if the elderly person had sat just away from the water body he would have been saved... Destiny call... RIP to the departed soul....
