Mangaluru, Jun 30: "The Congress led-state government should not repeal the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020. The government should implement the law in its spirit and letter. If the government does go ahead and revokes the act, the seers will hit the streets and hold hunger strikes against the present government," said Shri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Shri Kshetra Odiyoor.
Briefing media persons about the decision taken after the seers held long meetings here on Friday, June 30, Shri Gurudevananda Swamiji said, “The government in its cabinet meeting discussed the scrapping the State’s Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Act, 2022 — popularly known as the anti-conversion law. All the seers condemn the decision to scrap the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act 2020, and the anti-conversion law. The government should not scrap both the laws."
"The government should maintain status quo in respect of the existing Goshalas and continue to release financial grants to them and even for the private Goshalas. Moreover, the Gomala land should be handed over to mutts, temples, mandiras, and to private Goshalas," he added.
The Swamiji said repealing of cow slaughter and anti-conversion laws amounted to pursuing anti-Hindu policies. “It will hurt the sentiments of Hindus. So, we seers demand that the government administration should ensure peace and harmony prevails without hurting the sentiments of anyone,” he said.
He said that the seers will submit a memorandum to governor, chief minister and the deputy chief minister urging them not to scrap the laws.
Shri Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Shri Vajradehi Mutt said, " If the government scraps both the laws there is likelihood of unrest erupting in the society. As of now there is peace and harmony in the society."
Answering a query, he said that when Mahatma Gandhi was on a fasti as part of Ahimsa there was no disruption of peace in society. “When seers go on a fast it will create awareness in society," he said.
Speaking on the special ‘anti-communal wing' task force, Swamiji said, "As the district hub of many colleges, the formation of an anti-communal Wing will give a bad name to the region. It is an effort to curb the youths who are acting against love jihad. Efforts are being made to extern the Hindu youth who try to prevent love jihad. The anti-communal Wing should work within the legal framework. If the youths are harassed unnecessarily a serious agitation will be launched against the administration."
He said the seers will meet prime minister, home minister and governor over the issue of scraping of law.
Referring to the silence of the seers over the court verdict on the brutal rape and murder of Soujanya, Swamiji said, “The court has released the accused due to lack of evidence. We are pained over the verdict. In the coming days we will hold a meeting and decide on the future course of action."
Mohandas Paramahamsa Swamiji of Shri Mahalakshmi Kshetra Manila also spoke on the occasion.
