Decision on Karnataka After Lokayukta Report: BJP

New Delhi, Jul 25 (IANS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said any decision on Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will be taken after it receives the Lokayukta report indicting him in a multi-crore mining scam.

"I have spoken to Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa and he said that as the party chief whatever I will decide, he will obey," BJP chief Nitin Gadkari told reporters here.

"On the basis of perception, I never take any political decisions. When we get the Lokayukta report, we will take the right and appropriate action on the Karnataka issue," Gadkari added.

In Bangalore, a defiant Yeddyurappa, who returned here from a holiday in Mauritius, said he would continue as chief minister for a long time.

The chief minister said he would clarify his position on all issues, including his alleged role in the mining scam.

Pressure has mounted on Yeddyurappa to quit after the fresh scandal hit his government. He is now facing charges of phone-tapping of the ombudsman and opposition leaders. However, he described the charges as "baseless."

The chief minister has accused the opposition Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) of attempting to bring down the first BJP government in the southern state over the last three years.

"I am hurt by allegations that phones of ombudsman and opposition leaders are tapped by my government. Though the charges are baseless, I will write to the prime minister to order an inquiry into the issue," Yeddyurappa told reporters at his residence soon after his arrival from Mumbai.
