New Delhi, July 25 (IANS) The Congress Monday dismissed the charges made by former communications minister A. Raja against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying that he is an "accused" in the 2G case and the matter is subjudice.

"The accused can say anything in his defence, it is a very sad day for Indian democracy if we start giving unnecessary reliance on the comments of an accused trying to present his case," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said.

"The prime minister's honesty, rectitude and integrity does not require a certificate from anyone. Putting an allegation on him is like trying to spit on the sun," Tewari said.

Raja Monday alleged in court that the transactions made in the allocation of 2G spectrum were known to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and then finance minister P. Chidambaram.

"The matter is subjudice and to do a running commentary on the comments of an accused is not proper," Tewari said.

"As of today he is not a minister, he is an accused in front of a court of law. As far as telecom matters are concerned, I don't want to go in the details," he added.
