Ruckus in Karnataka Assembly as BJP protests delay in implementing poll promises

Bengaluru, Jul 4 (IANS): Karnataka Legislative Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes on Tuesday as BJP legislators stormed the well of the House against the delay in implementation of  five poll promises of the ruling Congress.

Proceedings of both the Houses were disrupted following the commotion.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requested the BJP members to stop the ruckus and to participate in the proceedings.

He said, “Adjournment motion is discussed after the Question Hour and Zero Hour and you can discuss whatever you want to then.”

Sources in the BJP told IANS that the party's protest against the Siddaramiah government not implementing its poll promises will continue till the Assembly session comes to a close on July 14.

Notably, the ‘Anna Bhagya ‘scheme or five kg of grains to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families had run into rough weather following the unavailability of rice and the government missed the deadline of July 1.

The government had then decided to credit money into the account of beneficiaries at the rate of Rs 34 per kg till the government could source rice.

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has decided not to sell rice directly to states following a directive of the central government.

The ‘Shakthi’ scheme offering free rides for women in non-luxury buses has already commenced while the ‘Gruha Lakshmi’ scheme providing Rs 2000 to a month to the women head of an APL/BPL family will be effective from August.

The benefits of the ‘Gruha Jyoti’ scheme providing free 200 units of electricity will be reflected in the bills from August.

The Yuva Nidhi scheme providing Rs 3000 per month to unemployed graduates and Rs 1500 to unemployed diploma holders who passed in 2022-23 will also be launched soon.

BJP and JDS will not allow Congress to sail smoothly the legislative proceedings to avenge their miserable election defeat. It's upto Congress leadership to get the business conducted without disruption and teach a lesson to the trouble makers. Now all these people have lost 40 percentage income, they are a frustrated lot.

Whoever in the opposition creating this ruckus and hindering the proceedings of the assembly should be dismissed and expelled from state assembly. It’s only a promise and no set deadline. No law is broken here. BJP should recall its 600 Chaddi promises and only meagre 60 are fulfilled with strings attached. But congress will not stoop to BJP level to remind BJP of its promises since no law is broken.

First let them finalise their legislative team leader... They are unable to do such a simpler thing and hence have no right to protest on issues that need a bit of time to implement meaningfully... if they continue to create ruckus instead of cooperating in favour of the needy people by forcing central government to stop preventing FCI, people of the state will throw stones and torn chappals at each such MLA....

Bad intention is a hidden sickness. BJP is well known for their diabolic nature to win by hook crook. They are disturbing the assembly session or calling public agitations not out of sympathy for poor but to defame Congress government. Their action is not born by true intention but with Evil power intentions to satisfy their ego and frustrations of losing the elections. 10 years have gone since the bluff master promised 15 Lacs to all the Indians and these BJP saffron brigade has never dare to question Modi.
