Mangaluru: Hoarding collapses, several vehicles, shops damaged

Mangaluru, Jul 5: A huge hoarding that was put up on a building fell down following heavy rains and winds damaging several vehicles which were parked near it on Wednesday July 5.

The incident took place at Bikarnakatte. A few shops were also damaged in the incident. 

The police who rushed to the spot, cleared the place of the hoarding. The incident disrupted vehicular traffic on the Nanthoor-Padil road for some time.

Fortunately, no one was beneath the hoarding when it collapsed.

    after the saffron party took over reigns of mcc in 2019, the city has gone from smart to kurtel nagari....these kind of hoardings should not be allowed...being a smart city allow only drone advt...

    Only solution is cancel the licence of the hording company, they have not gollowed the rules. We need dynamic DC and Commissioner. For negligence of DC and Commissioner why the insurance company should????? Rights now DC and Commissioner must take city round and order remove all

    Hoardings are always a public safety hazard... especially the old ones which have not been revisited after installation.... Also recently several hoardings are erected without firm base or supports... We can see in old Diana circle in Udupi two big foundations erected in the junction posing space constraint for pedestrians to walk while buses are passing.. one day or the other someone will either be injured or loose life due to unscientific activity by Udupi Municipality...

    Very true; these hoardings should have some holes so that they do not block the airflow totally; moreover, they are not designed to take the high wind flow pressure; these type of accidents have occurred before too! High time authorities make it mandatory to make hoardings only from some light weight composite material so that even if they fall there is no much damage to life and property!
