Udupi, July 5: Taking into concern the safety of people, the National Highway (NH) authorities have installed traffic cones and other safety measures at Santhekatte underpass construction area.
As per MP Shobha Karandlaje's order, the underpass work has been halted. But with the onset of monsoon there is a chance of landslide and danger to national highway users if they move on the edge of the road, Taking into concern the lives of the public, the NH authorities have taken safety measures.
Traffic cones have been installed throughout the edge of the service road and national highway in Santhekatte. Traffic cones will help the travellers during night time to read the road and negotiate as a hole dug up for the underpass construction is quite deep and is likely to cause danger.
The other safety measures installed include a make-shift wall made of metal sheets throughout the national highway stretch. The construction area has been covered with tarpaulin and bags filled with soil have been placed on the tarpaulin to protect it from wind and rain. Tarpaulin is also covered to protect the corners of the dugout area and to reduce the risk of collapse of the national highway.
With the onset of monsoon and the district getting copious rainfall, the rainwater is likely to stagnate in the dugout hole, but the authorities have assured that the water will flow through the culvert which already exists. But, if the downpour continues for three more days then the construction area may be further endangered.
