Uttara Kannada man makes magical toys, puzzles using wooden logs, pieces

Uttara Kannada, Jul 6: Parameshwara Hegde has been making toys for children using logs of wood and broken wooden pieces. Hegde who resides in Sirsi's Vanalli Mandemane is enthusiastic about making toys for children as he is engrossed in it while sitting on the floor just like children.

Parameshwara Hegde, who is all of 45 years of age is making toys for children as a hobby. During the summer holidays children seem to enjoy playing with these toys. Though Hegde has made toys as a hobby it has turned colourful for children.

Logs of wood that look like a snake and sticks that look like bows and bolts from old windows all find a place in Hegde's playroom. He has designed some interesting games and puzzles for children using these wooden pieces which are being enjoyed by people of all ages as well. Some of the puzzles are difficult to crack but it is an exercise for all the minds, he says.

Some of the toys made by him using broken wooden pieces that have been liked the most are the use of elastic to make a square and the snake puzzle. Many of them have even struggled and found it challenging to solve the rope jigsaw puzzle.

He has made some plus signs using broken wooden pieces which are appealing to the eye. He has also carved baskets using creepers that are grown in the forest. He also picks up wooden pieces wherever he goes and turns them into colourful toys within a day.

Toys such as birds, snakes, peacocks, penguins are some of them that are liked by children. He also makes toys using paper.
