Mangalore, Jul 26: "Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde has prepared the report on illegal mining after collating complete evidence. Perhaps it would be better for chief minister Yeddyurappa to resign from his post well before the report is submitted," said corporate affairs minister M Veerappa Moily.
He was speaking to reporters at the district Congress office here on Tuesday July 26. "BJP still believes that elections can be won with money power and vote bank mechanism. If Yeddyurappa continues to be arrogant, then Congress will take to the streets to fight against the corrupt state government," he said.
He further said that the centre will not intervene in the matter as long as the governor has full rights to handle the issue.
Stating that the centre has taken appropriate action against those accused in the 2G spectrum and other scams, he said the BJP has failed to take action against corruption in the state and has shown disrespect to the people who voted for them.
Lamenting the stand taken by Hazare and Ramdev against the centre, Moily said that Lokpal Bill prepared by the government was in favour of people. But Hazare’s demand was extra-constitutional. Any act should be constitutionally approved in the Parliament. If all demands by Anna and Ramdev are accepted by the government, it would be hazardous to the Constitution. Congress can never let that happen, he asserted.
He also said taxation policy of the central government is strong enough to combat the issue of black money, he said.
On the issue of opposition to communal violence bill by Hindu elements, Moily said the bill began taking shape in the year 2005, but now all of a sudden some elements are terming it as ‘anti-Hindu’. "Discussions were held from 2005 to 2011 and the bill is being prepared to curb fundamentalism and anti-Constitutional activities," he said.
He added that the ‘Congress Nadige Janara Balige’ (Congress campaign to connect with people) has been evoking good response from the public in gram panchyat and ward levels.
He also urged the Congress party workers to make people aware that 75% of the funds for development works has been released by the central government.
Moily said that the recently-held job fair in Chikkaballapur by Congress party was a great success with about 10,000 youth getting the jobs. He called upon the Congress party workers to carry out more such works.
Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLAs U T Khader, Abhayachandra Jain, Ramanath Rai, KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, leaders Suresh Ballal, Mamatha Gatty, T K Sudhir among others were present.
