Udupi, Jul 9: As the election dates for the graduates constituency of Karnataka Vidhana Parishad is nearing, educationist and social worker Kodimbadi Hariprasad Rai has been leading among the aspirants to contest from the Southwest graduates constituency, consisting of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Davangere districts, on the Congress party ticket.
KPCC has invited applications from aspirants of various graduates constituencies in which the applicants have to pay Rs 2 lac and an application fee of Rs 5,000 through a demand draft. July 10 is the last date to file applications.
Kodimbadi Hariprasad Rai has been a well-known name in the education sector of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga and Davangere districts. As per the sources, Kodimbadi Hariprasad Rai is likely to be given the Congress ticket to contest from the Southwest graduates constituency.
Hariprasad Rai is currently heading educational institutions in Puttur of Dakshina Kannada, Mangaluru, Soraba and in Udupi districts. More than 3,000 students are availing themselves of education in these institutions. He is also heading HPR Foundation through which he has involved himself in various social service activities.
Hariprasad Rai is a root level Congressman. He has held various positions in the party from a booth president to that of being a district Congress vice president. He has also worked as NSUI president of Puttur during his student days.
Hariprasad Rai is also serving as president of Udupi district Athletics Association of which Dr G Parameshwara, home minister, government of Karnataka is heading the organisation at the state-level.
Hariprasad Rai and his social concern is commendable. He is a member of Red Cross organisation in Udupi. He has also served as province president of Lions Club 317c. He is also serving as an esteemed member of the National Population Stabilisation Fund under the agies of government of India.
Being a film producer, Hariprasad Rai has produced many prominent movies in the Tulu language. Currently, he is also serving as director of Pragathi Credit Co-operative Society.
Being in the educational field for a long time, at present, Hariprasad Rai is serving as a lecturer in Fortune Academy of Health sciences, Brahmavar.
