Mysuru, Jul 10: Kuvempunagara police arrested a man who used to target widows and divorcees on matrimonial sites, marry them and escape with their gold and jewellery.
It has come to light during investigation that accused Mahesh, a resident of Banashankari in Bengaluru, has married 15 times. Police recovered Rs 2 lacs in cash, two cars, a golden bracelet, a finger ring, two golden bangles, necklace and seven mobile phone handsets.
Mahesh married a woman of Mysuru origin after getting to know her through a matrimonial site. He introduced himself as a doctor to her and got married to her at Vishakhapatnam. He pressurised the woman to give him Rs 70 lac on the pretext of opening a clinic. He escaped after stealing gold ornaments and Rs 15 lac cash from the woman. She filed a complaint with Kuvempunagar police station in the city against her husband Mahesh.
During interrogation it came to light that Mahesh had conned several women saying that he is an engineer, a contractor, a government employee etc.
Police are surprised that none of the women, who were conned by Mahesh have filed a police complaint except the last one of Mysuru origin. After thorough inquiry more startling facts are expected to emerge.
