Byndoor, Jul 10: Ottinane, located along the Byndoor Shirur highway, continues to witness landslides. On Sunday, a mudslide occurred, which was subsequently cleared on Monday. However, due to the soft nature of the soil in this region during the rainy season, there is an ongoing fear of further landslides. The area remains wet for approximately eight months of the year, exacerbating the risk. The frequent mudfall onto the road has been causing traffic issues, and as the area falls under the jurisdiction of the forest department, there are difficulties in clearing the mud.

Moreover, the concrete cover previously laid in the area has also deteriorated. While sandbags have been placed to mitigate the landslides, their effectiveness is limited. If the rainfall intensifies, the likelihood of landslides worsening increases.

Byndoor, a region prone to landslides, is facing continued challenges at Ottinane along the Byndoor Shirur highway. The soft mud in this area, coupled with the heavy rainfall during the monsoon season, creates a precarious situation. Efforts to clear the mud and maintain a safe road for traffic have been hindered due to the area's classification under the forest department. As authorities work to address the situation, there is a pressing need for comprehensive measures to minimize the risk of landslides and ensure the safety of commuters traveling through this vulnerable stretch of the highway.
