Udupi, Jul 11: A Manipal-bound car from Karkala that was driven recklessly, haphazardly and dangerously collided with few other vehicles and caused harm in an incident near Manipal on Monday, July 10, in the evening.
The incident caused some amount of tension and commotion in the vicinity.
The car hit a bus from behind near the KMC Hospital bus stop. Later, the car hit a two-wheeler while taking a reverse turn resulting in an injury of the bike rider.
On its way from Karkala the car had hit and damaged a few vehicles, it is learnt. The car took a U-turn at Manipal towards Karkala in a bid to escape from the scene as the police began to chase the vehicle.
Three unidentified persons in the car stopped the vehicle near Karkala and escaped their way into the forest. Police began their search operations to find those in the car. Locals and police could not lay their hands on any clues, it is learnt and the search operation is continuing.
Meanwhile, the Manipal police have seized the car used by the unidentified gang and have begun a probe. It is said that all the three were in the car. The vehicle saw traces and smelt alcohol and the car was registered in the name of a person who lived in Kodavooru. The police are in the process of conducting an enquiry of the person who owned the car. Police suspect that the three accused persons had consumed drugs and were in a state of intoxication when the crime occurred.
