Beltangady: Boy dies after swing rope gets stuck around his neck

Beltangady, Jul 16: A tragic incident occurred when a young boy lost his life while playing on a swing, as the rope got entangled around his neck.

The victim, Srisha, a 14-year-old student in 8th grade and the son of Balakrishna from Mantame village in Malavantige taluk, met with this unfortunate accident.

While enjoying the swing in the backyard of his house, the rope somehow got tangled around his neck, causing him to fall. His sister witnessed the incident and immediately informed their father. They rushed the boy to a private hospital in Ujira, but tragically, he passed away during the journey.

The deceased boy's body was taken to Beltangady Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Sub-Inspector Dhanraj and the staff from Beltangady Police Station have arrived at the scene and are conducting an investigation into the incident.

    Rita, when the neck is constricted tightly, oxygen supply to the brain is completely cut off; within 4-5 minutes without oxygen the victim becomes "brain dead"; and once the brain dies, it cannot be revived under any circumstances! What first-aid you are talking about is called CPR and mouth to mouth resuscitation, which is used for cardiac arrest victims!

    Very sad incident.This unluck could have avoided if someone was there near and gave a first aid help soon after he fell down /or rope could have removed and started to give heart massage or hold him up side down so that blood flows to brain .simple massaging his heart side too would be better.Opening his mouth and give breathing in his chest ?Later you could take him to hospital.Very few worthful moments of a person are first few seconds or minutes .Till one reaches to hospital takes lot of time which person doesnt have or his brain inclusive his heart .Why such important things are not brought to people in India I dont understand.They always rush to hospital first even heart attack happens or like here one get entagled with rope or fall in water.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to his family.Very tragic.

    Thank you Dr.Rita, Germany for your wise opinions. The unluck is you are in Germany, could have avoided if you were here to hold him up side down for very few worthful moments, did not know his brain inclusive his heart. Such important things are not brought to people in India, not like Germany. May his soul rest in peace. Heartfelt sympathy to his family. Very tragic.

    I agree with you Ahmed, Ullal as far as this case is concerned. In a village, the first thing the panic-stricken father could think of, was rush his son to the nearest hospital, which was tragically too late. Having said that, what Rita, Germany has suggested is valuable tips which can save lives before medical help arrives. Basic First aid does not need education and literacy. Remember our parents and grandparents how they administered first aid to a child choking with food or other foreign parts or apply soothing paste of natural leaves on burn victims. I don’t think any of them went through any first aid training. Similarly, basic first aid can save precious lives in cases of drowning, highway accidents, electric shock, heart attacks etc. With the advancement and reach of internet and smartphones to many places in India, it is never too late to begin somewhere. Basic training can be accessed through YouTube channels too. Who knows, one day you and I may be a life savers of a friend, family member or a stranger.

    Dear Naveen, what Rita has commented about first aid is for victims of cardiac arrest; whereas in case of total obstruction of blood supply to the brain by constriction of the main artery in the neck, it takes only 4-5 minutes for the brain to die irreversibly; this is too short a window period!
