Kaup: Accused held after killing co-worker, police acts within 5 hours of crime

Kaup, Jul 19: Kaup police have arrested an accused within five hours of the act of committing crime winning praise from the public.

The accused killed his co-worker over a flimsy reason and had gone absconding.

Ganesh, the deceased hailed from Odisha was killed by his co-worker Aakan who is the accused arrested.

This incident happened on July 17 in a building that was under construction near Katapady old market. Labourers Ganesh and Aakan who both hailed from Odisha had a fight over a trivial matter when Aakan hit Ganesh's head with an iron rod. Ganesh who was grievously injured was rushed to the district hospital by Dinesh Singh but Ganesh had died by then.

A case in this connection was registered with Kaup police.

Udupi SP Akshay H Machindra who arrived at the spot constituted different teams and directed them to crack the case.

The team comprised Kaup circle inspector K C Poovaiah, Kaup SI Srishaila Murugodu and police personnel Sudhakar and Narayana which swung into action within five hours of the crime and visited the spot. The team arrested the accused Aakan near Udupi express bus station.

It is said that Aakan was in an inebriated state and was under the influence of alcohol before the fight broke out between the accused and the victim Ganesh. A verbal spat between the two resulted in Ganesh assaulting Aakan who in turn retaliated by hitting Ganesh with an iron rod, according to a preliminary investigation report.

The accused who has been taken into custody is yet to be interrogated. As Aakan was in an inebriated state and during the fight with Ganesh, Aakan had suffered minor bruises he has now been admitted to Udupi district hospital for treatment.
