Mangaluru: Car driver flees without paying after filling full tank of petrol

Mangaluru, Jul 23: A peculiar incident unfolded at a petrol pump in Kavoor, where a car driver pumped a full tank of petrol and made a quick getaway without settling the bill.

On July 20, at 11:19 pm, a blue Renault car pulled up at the Kavoor petrol pump. The driver requested a full tank of petrol to be filled. Once the fuel tank was filled, the driver abruptly sped away at high speed, leaving behind an unpaid bill of Rs 4100.

Notably, the car did not display any registration number plates both at the front and rear. The Kavoor police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

If at the petrol bunk people had the presence of mind to immediately notify on the police emergency number this car could have been blocked on the route further

    Prabhu K Mangalore ,whats the use of having cameras when cars dont display or have numbers?Best is before filling the tank ,ask for his Bank card or Aadhar card.Make it compulsory till he pays.Otherwise have method to stop the car instantly with some GPSor chip.

    What is the use of installating so many survielance cameras and a big traffic police force when vehicles can freely roam within city limits without number plates? RTO should be made accountable for such incidents, which are very serious!!

    These kind of incidents makes necessary to implement pre-paid systems everywhere. In one way it is good, nobody can escape. Otherwise take some guarantee like scan of adhar cards(duly ensuring drivers photo in the original aadhaar card), before filling their tanks.

    @ Harish Hegde - It’s not the business of the attendant to question the driver re not having front and back number plates, it’s for the RTO & police who are always busy on their mobile phones to apprehend these law breakers. To avoid such incidents, should follow what SHELL Petrol stations do, by keeping a barricade in front of the vehicle till filling and payment is done.
