Bantwal, Jul 23: The water level of Netravati river has risen steadily since Sunday morning and it touched eight meter by afternoon. Following this, the low lying areas were flooded with river water reaching the danger level.
Nine houses in Panemangaluru Aladka were inundated. The water also entered the Sharada Vidyalaya playground and also caused huge losses to arecanut growers as standing crops were flooded.
Mangaluru AC Dr Harshavardhan and Bantwal tahsildar visited the affected areas on Sunday afternoon. They also asked people living in flood affected areas of Aaladka in Panemangaluru, Bastipadpu of Padpu B Mooda village, Manihalla of Bantwal and Maindal to shift themselves to safer areas. They also visited the rehabilitation centres at Panemangaluru.
Deputy tahsildar Rajesh Naik, revenue inspector Vijay, village administrative officer Mattihalli Prakash, Ashwini, Yashodha and Sandesh were present.
