Mangaluru, Jul 24: Claud D'Souza, a well-known singer, songwriter, and composer, famous for his contributions to the Konkani music world and his association with Konkani legend Wilfy Rebimbus, passed away in Mangaluru on Monday, July 24, after a brief illness. He was 67.
With an impressive career spanning 61 musical 'nites,' Claud was not only an exceptional singer but also showcased his talent in playing musical instruments such as the drums and guitar. He was highly regarded as a compere and a skilled actor-director in Konkani stage shows.
Having made his first appearance in Wilfy Rebimbus' shows from the 75th Wilfy Nite, Claud became an integral part of the troupe. He was highly accomplished as a writer, director, and actor, with over 40 Konkani stage plays on social, historical, and religious themes to his credit. Claud's contributions extended beyond his own works, as he produced 15 CDs and served as a rhythm composer for albums of other artists. His impactful sound and religious plays earned him several accolades and awards, including the 'Sandesha Award' and the Karnataka Sahitya Academy award. The Konkani music world mourns the loss of this multi-talented artist, who left a lasting mark on the industry.
The funeral of Claud D'Souza will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at St Sebastian Church in Bendore. The viewing of the mortal remains will take place at 2:30 pm, followed by the mass at 3:30 pm.
