Kundapura, Jul 27: The building of a higher primary school situated at Tarapati under Paduvari grama panchayat limits of Byndoor taluk collapsed on Thursday, July 27, early in the morning due to incessant rainfall and high velocity winds.
The structure of the school building was 30 years old in which 120 students are studying from grade one to eight and another 30 students in the Kindergarten. Due to shortage of classrooms, excepting during the rainy season, classes were held in the school building that has now collapsed.
The structure was dilapidated since the last three years. Though a report has been sent from school and education department authorities to build a new building, neither engineers nor the concerned officials have visited the school till date.
Local leader Sadashiva Paduvari had brought the pathetic state of the building to the attention of panchayat engineer three years ago. The then engineer Srikant said that the building was solid and there was nothing to worry.
Sadashiva says that even their appeal made in the last year fell on deaf ears.
