Rajya Sabha Pays Tribute to Mumbai Blast Victims

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS): Reiterating the resolve to fight against terror, Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari Monday paid tribute to the victims of the July 13 Mumbai bombings.

"No words are strong enough to condemn such heinous act of violence," Ansari said.

"With shock and grief, I refer to the three bomb blasts in Mumbai, in which 24 people lost their lives," he said.

Three near-simultaneous blasts took place in Dadar, Zaveri Bazar and Opera House areas of Mumbai on July 13.

The chairman also paid tribute to those killed in recent train accidents, the victims of terror attack in Norway and those who died in the cruise ship that sank in Volga river in Russia.

Besides, on the first day of the monsoon session, the upper house remembered religious leader Sathya Sai Baba as well as veteran artist M.F. Husain and other former members.

Three new members, Congress' Shantaram Naik from Goa and Hussain Dalwai from Maharashtra and the Bharatiya Janata Party's Meghraj Jain from Madhya Pradesh, were sworn in to the upper house.
