Udupi: High Action at 'Aatida Gobbulu' as Adults, Kids Enjoy Outdoor Sports

Udupi, Aug 1: Under the aegis of Lions Club, Kaup, and JCI, Kaup, Vasudev Swami Seva Bhajan Mandal organized ‘Aatida Gobbulu’, Tulunadu traditional games on the silted field of Vasudev Swamy Temple, Kaup, on Sunday July 31.
Running race for men on the silted field, Kabaddi, tug-of-war, and sack races were held while for women contests were running race on silted field, tug-of-war, weaving ‘tendu’ leaves, and musical chairs.
For children below the age of 15 years, running race on silted field, musical chair, lemon and spoon race, and biscuit-eating competition were held while for the general public running race on silted field and a treasure hunt was held.
Lions district governor Jayakar Shetty Indrali inaugurated the programme. Kaup gram panchayat president Yogish Rai presided over the programme. JCI east zone XV president Y Sukumar started off the rural games.
Folk arts scholar K L Kundantaya delivered a talk on Tulunadu traditions and customs.
Vasudev Swamy Bhajan Mandal president Uday Shetty, Kaup Lions Club president Harish Nayak, and Kaup JCI president Rajendra B K were the chief guests on the occasion.
Bhajan Mandal member Kaup Narayan Shetty welcomed the gathering. JCI treasurer and journalist Rakesh Kunjoor proposed the vote of thanks. Dandateerta College vice-principal Nilanand Naik compered the programme.
K P Acharya, correspondent, Vidyaniketan Group of Education Institutions, Kaup, distributed prizes to the winners during the concluding ceremony.
The Bhajan Mandal honorary president Dr K Prabhakar Shetty presided over the prize distribution ceremony.
JCI zonal director Deepak Kumar Yermal, and zonal officer Praveen Kumar Gurme were the chief guests.
Cash prizes and Sadanand Shetty Memorial Trophy were presented to the winners on the occasion.
