Sullia, Aug 1: Valuables worth lac of rupees including cash were stolen from the house of a temple priest at Subramanya.
The theft occurred at the rented house of Krishnaraja Bhat, a native of Udupi, now serving as temple priest at Subramanya Math for the past 15 years.
Family members of Krishnaraja Bhat had been to his native place Udupi in the evening on July 27 and returned on July 30 evening. When they tried to open the main door, it was found to be latched from inside. On checking in the backyard of the house, the rear door was open.
The house was found in ransacked condition. It is suspected that the thieves entered the house through the roof after removing the tiles.
Two silver lamps worth Rs 40000, silver plate worth Rs 20000, silver jewel box worth Rs 40000, gold chain worth Rs 70000, one pair of ear rings worth Rs 10000 and Rs one lac in cash were stolen from the house. The total value of stolen goods is Rs 2.8 lac.
Subramanya police are investigating further.
