Mangaluru, Aug 1: Chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah said that police have filed suo moto case with regards to the washroom video incident in a college in Udupi. He also said that there would no probe by the SIT into the case.
Siddaramaiah was speaking to the media at the international airport in the city on Tuesday August 1. He is on a visit to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts to look into the destruction caused by rain in July.
The CM further said, “A DySP is conducting the investigation into college washroom video case. Let it conclude first. The National Women’s Commission representative said that no hidden camera was placed in the washroom. Let the investigating report be published. Then we will talk on this subject. The home minister must have said that the students of the college must have played a prank. When DySP level inquiry is in progress, the question of demanding an SIT investigation does not arise.”
Over moral policing cases in the district, he said, “Anyone who indulges in moral policing will be dealt with strictly. There is no chance for anyone to take law into hands. I have asked the police department not to show any leniency.”
On Soujanya case, the CM said, “The Soujanya case was given to the CBI and was in the court. Now her parents have appealed for a re-investigation. I will have to check what should be done according to the law. As a lawyer, if I have to say, they have to appeal to the high court. I have not seen the CBI court judgement. I will go through it and check whether there is a chance for appeal. Soujanya’s parents have given me the judgement copy.”
He further said, “If rumours are spread on social media, strict action will be taken. We will not take action over criticism, but false news will not be entertained. Speaking about one’s family is not criticism. There is a difference between spreading rumours criticism. Attacking someone personally is another issue.”
The CM also said, “The SIT investigation is in progress in Bitcoin scam of the BJP government. They have to be given freedom and that is what we have done.”
No chance for unlawful activities, says Dinesh Gundu Rao
Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said that unlawful activities will not be tolerated, referring to the increasing number of moral policing cases in the district.
. He further said, “These activities should be called as immoral policing. Taking law into hands, assault, creating fear and suppressing others cannot be tolerated. I have given instructions to the police to take strict action. Communal forces are trying their best to malign the name of the district.
“Students are feeling scared to come to Mangaluru for studies. Many students told me that their admissions are done but they are scared to go to Mangaluru. I have asked the students not to fear.
“These incidents are created to bring a bad name to the Congress government. Communal forces are joining hands in these incidents. We will extern people who are involved in such activities.
“The BJP is supporting such criminals. They do not want communal harmony in Dakshina Kannada district. All have to cooperate for peace here,” he said.
