Kundapura, August 2: More than seven houses were damaged and more than a thousand areca nut and coconut trees were uprooted due to the strong winds at Ulloor 74 here on Tuesday, August 1, in the night.
Damages caused to Jayaker Shetty's house is put at about Rs 2 lacs, while it is nearly Rs 25,000 to Parvathi Shedthi's house, Rs 50,000 to Sumathi Shedthi's house, Rs 20,000 to the house of Rathnaker Shetty, Rs 25,000 to Neelu Poojarthy's house, Rs 20,000 to the house of Girija Poojarathy and Rs 25,000 to Annappa Poojary's house.
The strong breeze has uprooted more than 1,600 areca nut trees and four coconut trees. 225 areca nut trees of Sudhaker Shetty, 150 trees of Shanker Shetty, 40 trees of Mahabala Naika, 15 trees from Udaya Poojary's farm, 35 trees of Vanaja Acharthi, 75 trees of Rathna Poojary, 25 trees of Laxminarayana Achary, 20 trees of Krishna Achary, 25 trees of Parvati Shetty, 125 areca nut trees and four coconut trees of Sampigedi Narayana Shetty, 200 trees of Sumathi Shedthi, 200 trees of Rathnaker Shetty, 220 trees of Diwaker Shetty and 250 trees of Kalavati Shetty fell to the ground, said the officials.
Kundapura tahsildar Shobha Laxmi, revenue inspector Raghavendra D, Ulloor village accountant Kiran, gram panchayat president Rajesh Hebbar, PDO Sridhar Kamath, Panchayat members, leaders Sanjeeva Shetty Sampigedi, Rohith Shetty and others visited the spots and conducted the inspection.
Officials said that compensation will be paid immediately for the damaged houses and areca nut plantations.
