Mangaluru: Student dies by suicide on first day of college after parents deny money

Mangaluru, Aug 3: A youth, first year student of Karnataka (Government) Polytechnic (KPT), killed himself, distraught over the fact that his family did not provide him money for his expenses on the first day of joining the institute.

The deceased is identified as Sushant (17), son of Bhaskar Poojary and Dakshayani, residents of Subhash Nagar. He had completed his schooling and pre-university in the city. As he wanted to pursue mechanical engineering diploma, his parents got him admitted to KPT on August 2. They had given him Rs 500 on the day. 

On Wednesday August 3, when Sushant was leaving to college, his parents did not give him Rs 500 for expenses. Dejected by the fact, Sushant remained at home itself. When his father went out and mother was busy in kitchen, he hanged himself to the wooden log of the roof in his room.

Ullal police have registered a case in this connection.

    Who knows whether he was in the company of stinking rich colleagues (hailing from affluent families)? Possibly he must have considered it an ego issue ... We know how students from the affluent class yap in the school in front of other students and display their money power and the society and consider themselves lucky where they hail from. It is said money rules the roost. I have a strong gut feeling that he must have been brainwashed to beg/ask/demand money from his parents everyday. Even though I am employed, I feel the pinch ...my bottom-line is stretched and can't afford to pay so much amount to my children when they demand ... irrespective of their needs. I plainly tell them to earn to get it.

    May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to shocked parents.I am sure there is something more to this money problem.Who knows with his previous days money was taken out from other children ?Just find out this first before blaming him on the whole.Sure not every parent is not in position to give budge of money everyday.There are lot of children do this type of foul play these days.Sad he didnt tell everything and decided to suicide.Am sure he didnt suicide for money.

    Some times a polite NO with compassion' by parents to the teenage children do wonders. Some where, there is a big vacum, Heartfelt condelences to the bereaved members of the family. RIP Sushant.

    RIP!! Students should be taught the value of money from a very early age; doling out Rs 500/day is no joke during these tough times even for high middle income families!!

    Now a days children need money. During our time it was different and we were going to school without lunch also. No money that time. But now I feel pity on parents also. Everyday 500 from where they bring? If at all you cannot put children in evening college. Day time let them earn

    This is also because of the influence of peer group students who come from financially well off families and can afford such large amounts of pocket money!!

    May his soul RIP. There is more to this story than money issue. I was suffering from depression, it has do with many previous problems like abuse and mental torture. All i recommed to anyone suffering from mental issues is visit your local mental heath professionals, don't delay.
