Kaup, Aug 4: The family members of Prashant (37), a resident of Bolaragudde Ankudru at Udyavar, who got admitted to Manipal hospital as a truck hit him while crossing road and was declared brain dead at Manipal hospital, displayed exemplary humanitarian gesture amidst grief and donated his organs.
Prashant was working as Kanni party labourer at Malpe fishing port. On Wednesday after completing his work, he was crossing highway near Halima Sabju auditorium of Udyavar in order to go home. A truck hit Prashant and he was severely injured in the head.
Prashant was admitted to Manipal hospital. He did not respond to the treatment and succumbed on Thursday morning.
Doctors at Manipal hospital had made the family members of Prashant aware of organ donation. His sister Pramila agreed for the same. Accordingly, the kidneys and liver of Prashant were retrieved and safely transported to Mangaluru and Bengaluru.
Prashant was unmarried and was the sole bread winner of his family. He is survived by his mother and sister. They live in a rented house at Ankudru. Kaup police have registered a case against truck driver Jagannath who caused the accident.
