Bengaluru, Aug 4: BJP legislators of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada on Friday Aug 4, met Karnataka governor Thawarchand Gehlot and submitted a memorandum demanding the handover of Udupi college girls washroom video case enquiry to SIT.
BJP MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary led the team of legislators which included Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, Surathkal MLA Bharath Shetty, Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty, Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole, Kundapura MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik, Mangaluru city south MLA Vedyavas Kamath, and Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya.
In the memorandum, the BJP legislators urged for a SIT probe into the case stating, "The incident of filming Hindu girls in washroom on a mobile phone at Nethrajyothi Paramedical College, Udupl, is most heinous, atrocious, uncivilised and nauseating. This incident has made the entire civil society hang its head in shame. The students, public and various organisations across the state are holding protests demanding a SIT probe into the incident. The intensity of anger is increasing day by day. However, the state government has maintained that an investigation by an officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police is enough. But it is unconvincing, illogical and an irrational stance. The state government has created an atmosphere where the people have lost faith and confidence in the inquiry. A feeling has developed that the government is hesitating to conduct a SIT probe only because the victims are Hindu girls. It is being said that the mobile phones and videos have exchanged hands. It is also widely believed that certain love jihad organisations are threatening Hindu girls through social media."
"Going by the motive of this atrocious incident, it looks like there is a wider angle and larger conspiracy in the entire episode. It is most regrettable that neither the chief minister nor the Home Minister have taken any concrete and meaningful action except for a probe by an officer of the rank of DySP. This indifference of the state government towards the genuine demand for a SIT probe has increased the intensity of anger. This has the potential to cause social unrest and create law and order problems. We therefore request you to direct the government to order a SIT probe into the Udupi washroom filming incident," the BJP legislators of Udupi and Dakshina Kannda urged.
