Stranger occupies Kerala chief minister's chair

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 3 (IANS) Oommen Chandy's office got a scare Wednesday when his staff saw a middle-aged well dressed man sitting on his official chair in the chief minister's office busy speaking on the telephone.

The man was first spotted by a close aide of Chandy when he came to pick a file from the office table of the chief minister. He saw the man busy speaking on the official telephone of Chandy, who was busy chairing the weekly cabinet meeting in another room.

The aide called out to the security staff who handed over the man to the police who took him to the next door Cantonment Police station.

"It seems the man was not in his senses, according to preliminary questioning by the police. Anyway the matter is now over," said the office of Chandy.

On inquiry it was found that the man had called up the office of a few ministers.

Chandy's office is on the third floor of the main Secretariat block and the cabinet meeting takes place on the same floor.

Ever since Chandy assumed office in May, the Secretariat is swarming with people and the maximum crowd is seen before Chandy's office. The crowds swell late into the night and Chandy makes it a point to individually meet each one before he leaves the office well past midnight.
