Kasargod, Aug 6: Prime minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the renovation work of Kasaragod railway station under the Amrit Bharat station project online by pressing a remote button.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that a new chapter has been started in the railway sector. As many as 508 railway stations of the country have reached the peak of development. Development of small city railway stations will benefit common people and farmers. The Prime Minister said that the development of railway tracks and railway stations in small towns is important.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav presided. MP Raj Mohan Unnithan was present as the chief guest.
"Kasaragod station is being developed at a cost of about Rs 24.53 crore. Many basic amenities are included in this," the MP said. "Efforts are being made to extend the Jana Shatabdi Express from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur and the Allappu Kannur Executive Express to Kasaragod," he added.
MP Raj Mohan Unnithan unveiled the plaque. MLA N A Nellikunnu was present.
Railway officials, employees, people's representatives etc., were present in the ceremony.
Palakkad Railway Zone additional division manager Dr Sakir Hussain welcomed, Palakkad Zone divisional electrical engineer traction Sandeep Joseph proposed the vote of thanks.
