Udupi, Aug 7: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has raised concerns over the state government's move to transfer the Udupi para medical college washroom video case to the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) while the Udupi district police are still actively investigating the matter.
"The state government, responding to the widespread public outcry and protests across the state, had previously changed the investigating officer and intensified the investigations under the Udupi district police department. Subsequently, statements from both the victim and the accused were obtained, and various pieces of evidence were collected," said Yashpal Suvarna.
"During the course of the investigations, it came to light that the father of one of the accused individuals is an active member of the PFI (Popular Front of India). However, the decision to transfer the case to the CID before the completion of the district police's investigation has caused confusion," he added.
Alleging interference by the government in the initial stages of the investigation, Suvarna further accused the government of transferring the case to the CID in an attempt to protect the accused.
The transfer of the case from the district police to the CID has raised questions and uncertainties among the public, as they await further developments in the ongoing investigation.
