Mangaluru, Aug 8: The education department has instructed to hold weekend classes for primary and high schools in the district of Dakshina Kannada (DK) to make up for the classes that were lost during July due to heavy rains. For PU section, the board has asked the colleges to hold classes on Sundays also.
Some taluks in the district had given six days of holidays during heavy rains in July. In other taluks, seven days holidays were given by the district administration. From September, full time classes will be held on Saturdays.
The PU education board, however, has asked the institutions to hold classes on any holidays or weekends that suits the college administration and complete the syllabus before the mid-term examinations.
The Sullia BEO had already taken out a circular in this regard. However, it was withheld as such circulars should be issued at district level by the DDPI. Hence, the decision is taken to hold weekend classes from November now.
DDPI of DK D R Naik said, “As the rainy season is not over yet, we have withheld the earlier circular issued by the Sullia BEO. There is possibilities of rains in August also. Hence, we have decided to hold weekend classes so that the extra classes get over in November.”
Full day classes will have to be conducted on 14 Saturdays. This means that the Dasara holidays are likely to be cut short.
