Kadaba: Woman falls to death from 40 feet tall coconut tree

Kadaba, Aug 10: A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Bollaje, Punchappadi village, as a woman tragically lost her life on Wednesday while engaged in coconut-plucking duties atop a towering 40-foot tree.

The departed, identified as Suchithra (30), had been adeptly harvesting coconuts for the past two years utilizing a climbing machine. Unfortunately, fate took a grim turn as she ascended the coconut tree adjacent to her residence and tumbled to the ground, machine and all. Despite swift efforts by her husband to transport her to the government hospital in Puttur, her injuries proved fatal.

Suchithra's accomplishments as the first woman to employ a climbing machine for coconut harvesting had garnered recognition from numerous organizations. Left to mourn her loss are her husband, son, and daughter. A case has been lodged at the Bellare police station in connection with this tragic incident.

    John Tauro is right. There should be a secondary support such as a belt in case everything else fails. And that too without strangling the person.

    Ladies must be choosy about type of task they jump into. Climbing Coconut trees must need to have enough strength and care in the meantime. Most of the Climbing machine/equipment's are locally made and I would not think this type of locally assembled machines are certified or approved by ISI or proper quality control Agencies. (My presumption and not binding in any way) R.I.P.

    Today we lost a woman who broke the centuries old male dominance of coconut plucking and took care of her family. She is an inspiration to all women that no job is difficult in the world and out of reach of women.....May her soul Rest in Peace.

    Bian Nazareth ,koppa ,mangalore ,with all respect to your comment or dominance of coconut plucking ,I find this job is very tiredsome and hard.Whatever one say ,this for a woman is not meant,cause as one ascends with or without mascine ,blood pressure of woman might fall very soon than a man.By men it is different than in girls.So find it very sad she lost her life here in early age.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.

    Very tragic death ... RIP to departed soul Just wondering how this machine can come down suddenly ? there should be some mechanism to prevent sudden fall in case of machine fail ... hope this will taken care in future..

    Since this palm climbing machine is a recent invention, it may be lacking certain safety features, such as belt or strap around the body to from falling. Very sad.
