Tynsong is new Meghalaya forests minister

Shillong, Aug 4 (IANS) Meghalaya minister Prestone Tynsong, who was re-inducted into the cabinet by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma earlier this week, was Thursday given the charge of forests and environment department, an official said.

He would also look after the border areas development and sericulture and weaving departments in the Congress-led government.

Tynsong along with Frankenstein W. Momin, Augustine D. Marak and Founder Strong Cajee were dropped for demanding the ouster of Sangma as chief minister June 6.

In their place, Sangma inducted Congress legislators Shitlang Pale, Saleng Sangma and Bharatiya Janata Party leader-turned-Congress legislator Alexander Hek into his cabinet.

The Congress, which has 28 legislators, enjoys the support of nine United Democratic Party (UDP) members. The Nationalist Congress Party, the main opposition, has 15 members in the 60-seat assembly.
