Bantwal, Aug 14: A poignant incident unfolded as a young artist, grappling with the weight of unemployment and sickness, tragically took his own life by leaping into a well in the Mittamajalu area of Sajipamooda village in the taluk.
Sagar Acharya (26), a talented painter, met this unfortunate end, choosing to jump into the well located within the veranda of his home on a fateful Monday morning.
While the exact reasons behind this heart-wrenching decision remain elusive, his friends and neighbors have indicated that Sagar was overwhelmed by the dual burdens of deteriorating health and joblessness, leading him to express his struggle to find meaning in life.
Sagar was known for his exceptional prowess as a painter. Two years ago, he was engaged as an outsourced artist at the CDPO office in B C Road. However, his lifelong battle with kidney issues escalated, eventually forcing him to relinquish his job and confine himself to his home.
Compelled to undergo weekly dialysis sessions, Sagar's plight was intensified by the failure of both his kidneys, leading his father to selflessly donate one of his own kidneys to save his son's life. Following the surgery, Sagar's father was rendered unable to work for a period of time, further exacerbating the family's already delicate circumstances, as his mother also fell ill around the same time.
The entire Acharya family was beset by illnesses, leaving them not only struggling to make ends meet but also grappling with the costs of medical treatments. On numerous occasions, Sagar reportedly shared these challenges with his friends. The media brought attention to his kidney condition, attempting to garner support for Sagar's predicament. However, the weight of life's hardships became insurmountable for Sagar, leading him to tragically end his own life, as recounted by local residents.
In a harrowing rescue operation, Bantwal's fire service personnel managed to retrieve Sagar's lifeless body from the 30-foot-deep well. Currently, his remains rest at the Bantwal government hospital pending a post-mortem examination.
