Speaking on the subject, Dr Chinnadurai, chief advisor critical care of Aster R V hospital, said, “Though Karnataka is doing good, there is more room for improvement. Around 4000 brain dead patients were not identified as probably donors. Doctors should study the condition of patients for a long time. They should confirm the brain death soon and ask their families to donate their organs.
“Though, Karnataka has made great progress, any patient in need of organ donation has to wait for a minimum period of three years. Kidney is the organ that is much in demand in Karnataka followed by liver.
“More and more people have to donate organs. This benefits many receivers. Many programmes in this direction are organized. One donor can save eight lives,” he said.
