Mangaluru, Aug 16: "Beyond their journalistic responsibilities, reporters in Dakshina Kannada are deeply committed to societal welfare. The Dakshina Kannada Working Journalist Association (DKWJA) stands as a paradigm for the entire state, exemplifying the conscientiousness of its journalists," said K V Prabhakar, chief minister's media advisor.
Prabhakar, expressing these sentiments during a press briefing held on Wednesday, Aug 16, said, "Journalists in this district are shouldering responsibilities akin to those of the state government and district administration." He underlined the pivotal role that the local media plays in bridging the gap between society and the government.
Addressing the precarious situation faced by journalists in terms of social security, Prabhakar stated that the current government is actively pursuing the implementation of a new advertisement policy. Additionally, the administration is considering the relaxation of guidelines within the pension policy. Efforts are also being made to provide rural reporters with bus passes and accreditation cards.
Elaborating on his responsibilities as the Chief Minister's Media Advisor, Prabhakar highlighted the presence of a Quick Response Team and a Fact-Checking Team within the government, both dedicated to verifying the authenticity of news.
As part of the event, 100 school uniforms were distributed to students in Kutlur, while uniforms were also provided to Anganwadi students in Kapikad. Inner Well Club of Mangaluru North members contributed to this initiative by donating uniforms to the children of Aganvadi in Kapikad.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan commended this commendable initiative taken by journalists, emphasizing their role in addressing pertinent social issues before the government. He further expressed that the administration stands ready to collaborate in bringing these issues to the government's attention.
During the event, accolades were bestowed upon Soldier Vijeth Madival, the media advisor to the chief minister, and the deputy commissioner. The ceremony also saw the presence of Srinivas Indaje, President of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalist Association, PB Harish Rai, President of Mangaluru Press Club, and Journalist Jithendra Kundeshwar, among others.
On the occasion, MCF teeam sponsored the uniforms for governement school students whereas Inner Well Club of Mangaluru North members sponsored the same for Anganwadi children.
