Kundapur, Aug 17: An advocate was assaulted by a gang, for advocating for a particular party in a case, in the afternoon on Wednesday August 16 at Shiroor Kotemane Durgambike temple.
Ganesh Mesta, who is practicing at Byndoor court and member of Byndoor bar association is the victim, who is injured and recuperating in the hospital.
A case was filed long ago in Byndoor, Kundapur and high court in connection with Mesta community. Ganesh Mesta was advocating for a team in this case.
Ganesh Mesta had gone to Kotemane Durgambike temple on the occasion of Ati Amavasya on August 16 to offer pooja. He was attached by a gang of 11 people including Naveen Mesta, K N Achar, Sridhar Mesta, Girish Mesta, Sudhakar Mesta, Annappa V Mesta and Chandrashekhara Mesta. The gang also robbed Rs 5000 cash from the wallet of the lawyer and threatened the advocate with life according to the complaint filed by injured advocate Ganesh.
Mobi, president of Byndoor bar association said, “The police have not filed an FIR even after 12 hours of the assault. They have not taken the statement of the injured advocate. They should arrest the culprits without succumbing to any pressure.”
Prashant Poojary, secretary of Byndoor bar association, said, “It is condemnable that advocates are attacked regularly. If the accused in this case are not arrested, fierce protest will be held.”
Advocate Pinki was present in the hospital.
