Mangaluru, Aug 18: Women police arrested a man, native of Mumbai, who was trying to escape after sexually assaulting a differently-abled minor girl in the hospital, and the woman who cooperated in the assault on the victim girl. Both were subjected to 15 days of judicial custody.
The accused are identified as Abdul Haleem (37), a native of Bihar residing in Mumbai and Shameena Banu (22), a resident of Kulshekar.
Mansoor Ahmed Baba Sheikha, the younger brother of complainant woman and accused Abdul Haleem are friends. When they were returning on a bike from Kasargod on August 10, their bike met with accident and Hosangadi and bother were admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Both were in the same room of the hospital with a screen in between them.
The complainant woman and her elder daughter had gone to Manjeshwar police station to enquire about the accident. The complainant woman left her differently-abled younger daughter with accused Shamina Banu, who is wife of her younger brother. The minor differently-abled girl saw accused Shamina Banu behaving immorally with accused Abdul Haleem in the hospital. Later, Shamina made the differently-abled girl sit on the bed of accused Abdul Haleem. As soon as the victim girl was made to sit on the bed, accused Abdul molested her. The girl objected. Then with the help of accused Shamina, Abdul sexually assaulted the girl.
A complaint is filed in this regard by mother of the victim girl in women police station. Shamina Banu was arrested on August 16 itself. Abdul Haleem, who was travelling on train to Mumbai was apprehended by Goa police at Madgaon. Both were sent to 15 days of judicial custody.
Police inspector Lokesh A C of women police station is investigating further.
City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain appealed to the public to monitor differently-abled girls when they are sent with relatives as cases of sexual assault on them is increasing.
