Mangalore: Ceremonial Start to Year-long Bejai Parish Centenary Celebrations

Mangalore, Aug 7: The Centenary jubilation of St Francis Xavier Church, Bejai here was inaugurated ceremoniously with the Solemn Eucharistic celebration on Sunday August 7.
Before the mass, the Holy Bible was brought in the procession and enthroned by the main celebrant. The main celebrant Fr Vincent Furtado Cap, Dr Victor Machado the parish priest, Fr Anil Roshan Lobo the assistant parish priest, Augustine Rodrigues, vice-president Parish Pastoral Parishad, Charlotte Patrao the secretary ,Sr Mable UFS superior, St Angela conevent, and Melwyn Mascarenhas president ICYM, launched the centenary year.
In the inaugural address, Fr Vincent Furtado said that we need to cherish the faith, live the faith and transfer the same faith to the next generation. The world that will come after hundred years will be different. Make use of the available resources especially media for the faith formation activities, he advised.
Addressing the people during his homily, Fr Denis D’Sa said ‘look back and thank God, look within you and introspect look around and serve and look forward and trust God.
After the homily the parish priest distributed the candles to the Gurkars of 24 wards, the vice president and the secretary who represented the parish community, which was followed by the profession of faith. Following the mass “Amso Bhavarth Amchi Phirgas, Amso Sambram” (Our faith, our parish our celebration) the logo of the centenary year celebration was unveiled by the parish priest.
A centenary plant (Mango) and Jasmine flower saplings were planted by the parish clergy. The centenary flags were given to all the gurkars symbolizing the Unity of the parish. Robin Cutinha compered the programme.
St Francis Xavier Church, Bejai established in the year 1912 is in the heart of Mangalore city in the South Canara District of Karnataka State in India. It is situated at a distance of 2 kms from the Diocesan headquarters and is surrounded by Bendore, Bondel, Milagres and Derebail parishes.
